George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, 25-Year Age Difference

Sugar Daddy George Lucas and Mellody Hobson

Sugar Daddy George Lucas and Mellody HobsonGeorge Lucas is one of the most financially successful American filmmakers of his time, having created both the Star Wars and Indiana Jones film franchises. In 1971, Lucas founded his own production company, Lucasfilm Limited. In 2012, after over 40 years of putting out big-budget blockbusters, Lucas announced that he was ready to wrap up his career in mainstream Hollywood. “I’m moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff,” he told a reporter from the New York Times.

Nine months later, it was revealed that The Walt Disney Company had put in an offer to acquire Lucasfilm, and in December 2012, the deal was finalized—Lucasfilm became an official Disney subsidiary for a whopping $4.06 billion. Because Lucas owned the whole company, the hefty sum of money literally doubled his net worth, which is currently estimated to be $7.3 billion.

With a little more free time on his hands, Lucas was able to shift his focus to something a little more personal, like his relationship with his long-time girlfriend, Mellody Hobson. The celebrity couple first started dating in 2006 after meeting at a business event—Hobson is the chair of leading animation studio DreamWorks Animation. Their 25-year age difference didn’t seem to matter to either of them because after seven years together, Lucas proposed in January 2013. Their marriage took place at Lucas’ famed Skywalker Ranch in June 2013.

Lucas and Hobson are a success story for age-gap dating, and the reason their relationship has been so successful is that they aren’t naïve about their stark age difference. They both let go of any “preconceived ideas about what a partner should be,” Hobson said in an interview, and keeping that open mind is what allowed them to explore the potential of their untraditional relationship.
