Grieving Mick Jagger Sings Tribute to L’Wren Scott at Emotional Memorial

Grieving Mick Jagger Tribute to LwrenMick Jagger is still doing everything he can to honor his longtime girlfriend, fashion designer L’Wren Scott, whose life tragically was tragically cut short at the age of 49 when she unexpectedly committed suicide back in March 2014. The celebrity couple had been together for 13 years before her death.

On May 2, family and friends, including a few familiar celebrity faces, gathered at a church in Manhattan for a moving memorial service in honor of L’Wren Scott. Mick Jagger’s family participated in the service, with his son presenting a poem and two of his grandchildren reading Psalm 23.

Mick Jagger gave an emotional speech during which he praised his late girlfriend for her admirable work ethic, telling guests that he was always in awe of her fashion shows and how precise she was about making sure everything went well. According to a statement from his rep, Jagger broke down on several occasions, but composed himself by sharing lighthearted stories from his relationship with L’Wren Scott.

Several other celebrity guests spoke, including actresses Sarah Jessica Parker and Ellen Barkin, before Mick Jagger paid a personal tribute to his late girlfriend with his rendition of “Just Like a Woman,” originally sun by Bob Dylan. Although it wasn’t one of his own Rolling Stones songs, the 70-year-old rocker admitted that it was one of L’Wren Scott’s favorites.

Mick Jagger was on tour in Australia with the Rolling Stones when he found out about L’Wren Scott’s death and rushed back home to the U.S. The band halted their tour, but has since decided to resume it in October 2014.

In the meantime, Jagger has reportedly been spending some time on the island of Mustique, one of the holiday destinations that the celebrity couple frequented, with his oldest daughter to help him work through her death. “It’s the perfect place for him to start his recovery, which is going to take a long time,” said one insider. “He may never truly come to terms with what has happened, but he’s in the best place for him right now.”
