My new friend Keegan enjoyed working out and wanted a new workout partner, since he was alone for so long. There was this older man who was never married, never had kids, and was devilishly handsome with a personality that just clicked with mine so nicely. He apparently didn’t think I would be interested in him after hearing about my time with Michael, who was much older and much richer. Keegan thought I was out of his league altogether, so he never really considered me as a dating prospect—he “friend-zoned” me.
While in the friend zone, he asked me to look over his dating profile. So, I did and after careful consideration, I told him to change a lot about it. He was displaying his income information, which was a serious no-no; his profile read more like an empty checklist from The Notebook.
Plus, he had a few pictures up that were less than flattering. He has a bald head and with his complexion, and he just can’t pull off an orange shirt. I also edited a few pictures for him to use on his dating profile, and rewrote his biography to more accurately reflect him as I knew him. Once I was finished, he was greatly appreciative of this help and actually landed a date with a woman in less than 24 hours.
While I was reviewing his profile, I realized he “fit the bill,” so to speak. He was everything I wanted in a long-term partner; he was marriage material, to me at least. We genuinely clicked and although he friend-zoned me, I decided I wanted to go for it. I told him that after reading his original profile, he was definitely my type and I had learned a lot about him that he hadn’t previously disclosed. So, after completing his profile, I asked him out on a date. He was taken aback. There he’d been, single for so long and never “played the field,” and then all of a sudden he had two dates in less than 36 hours.
I didn’t know at the time that he’d already been asked out, and he didn’t offer up any information about it until years later. But as it turned out, this other woman was his age, a little heavier than me, and also worked in the same field of study. She was a more “appropriate” choice for him, for his social circle and family. However, he later found out that she would likely have a very hard time having any kids, due to her age and a medical condition. That wasn’t really negotiable for Keegan, as he wanted children and had waited this long to have them.
Little did I know that his dating profile inbox was blowing up. Meanwhile, I was busy trying to figure out how to get him to meet up with me, without being too obvious that I just wanted to check him out to verify my suspicions about him being a really great fit for me. So, I came up with the perfect, foolproof plan…
